Last spring, FMCSA, along with state transportation departments, investigated 350 moving companies for violations. It fined nearly 60 of them. This is where complaints have an effect: Most agencies, including FMCSA, target companies with the most complaints when determining which movers to investigate

Interstate movers, those that cross state lines–are regulated by the FMCSA = Federal Motor Carrier Safety Aмебелиdministration, part of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Companies that move only within New York are regulated by the New York Department of Transportation.

If you’re planning to hire a moving company, do some checking first. Don’t just hire the company that their website is look nice (specially be aware from companies with ugly sites). Ask other people about their experiences, CitySearch and Google maps are good point to start with. Get estimates from multiple companies and do some research.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has a Web site http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov, where you can search for complaints and company safety ratings. You also can make sure the company is insured and can check the number and type of complaints filed against it. FMCSA and this site also provides tips for choosing a moving company.

Keep in mind that multiple companies may be involved in your move. If you use a relocation company, it may contract with a mover separately. So make sure you know which company actually will be moving your items.

Also, in dealing with problems during moves, timing is very important. In most cases, you must file for damages within 90 days of your goods being delivered. Be sure to read all of your paperwork carefully so you know what your deadlines are in case of a problem.

Generally economy leads into recession when business slows down, business reduce there capital goods investment, lay-offs, increase in inflation, increase in interest rates and decrease in consumer spending are caused due to hit in the oil prices which is feed into industrialized economies.

Business had lost there confidence, interest rates have gone up, due to lay-off’s, consumer spending has decreased because of these manufacturing productivity has gone down. As the business has to reduce there cost of production through cut in transportation cost, carrying cost of inventory, cost of owning and ordering cost which in turn effect the moving companies where the business tend to respond to the moving companies to reduce there logistic cost. More recently the moving costs have been falling and increase in reliability with increase in competition and increased trip miles per hour for each vehicle and thus smaller work force for the same amount of work with lower maintenance cost and increased reliability.

From the news: “It’s not going as fast as I wanted,” said Myers, who had earlier boasted that the bridge might open before Tuesday morning. “We lost a little time last night. With the heavy lifts (of concrete debris) we’ve been getting, there are only one or two trucks that can carry them. So (the material) sits around waiting.” — But transportation officials said there was still plenty of wiggle room in the schedule to complete the job on time to get commuters to work Tuesday morning. “There is a total of about 15 hours of float time built into the schedule, and we haven’t used any of that,” said John Goodwin, a spokesman for Metropolitan Transportation Commission. “So, if time is money, that’s the rainy-day fund and we haven’t had to dip into it.” — By 10 p.m. Sunday, workers were scheduled to begin rolling the 6,500-ton new bridge section into place at the westbound entrance to the tunnel.
