Items That Are Made for Stacking When Moving
When you move, it can seem as if you will never be able to swim out from under what seems like and endless sea of boxes. Even though it may feel as if you have a house filled to the brim with empty boxes of all shapes and sizes that will never run out, it is inevitable that you will find yourself without a box. This can be frustrating when you are trying to find the best place for strange shaped things or hard to pack items like stuffed animals. But never fear, your very own appliances and some furniture can come to your rescue during your time of need!
A fridge is a great spot to pack anything that needs to be protected from the elements. Be sure that your fridge is very clean and dry on the inside, then wrap anything that can break in newspaper and slip inside of the drawers of your fridge. Every inch of space inside of this appliance can be utilized. The egg holders are perfect for tiny items that have been packed in egg cartons- such as jewelry. A chest freezer can be used in the same way as a fridge. Be careful not to pack anything that is too heavy inside of these appliances as they are already heavy enough on their own. Damage to the inner workings can also occur.
A washer and dryer can be used the same way. Stuffed animals, pillows, and comforters are perfect for packing into a washer or dryer. If you want to transport clean items, be sure that the washer has been drained and when it is transported, it is not tipped on its side too steeply. Water left inside of the washer can wet your belongings- so never pack anything that can be ruined by water damage in a washer. These appliances are built to rotate on the inside, so also take care that anything placed inside is safe to move around. It is not a good idea to place anything breakable into a washer or dryer for transporting.
Dressers are a tried and true way to move clothing and small items from one location to another. A great way to utilize every bit of space in your dressers is to buy some of the space saving bags, fill them with soft clothing or blankets, seal, and slide as many that you can into the drawers. Drawers can be carried like boxes or slid back into the dresser and carried as a whole unit.
It is never a good idea to stack books or many magazines into anything – box or appliance. Books and magazines may look as if they are perfect to stack but once they are stacked into boxes, they can be very heavy. Injury can occur if someone tries to move a box or appliance full of these things. If you have many books, try spreading them out through your boxes. Too many books can also damage the inside of an appliance. Always feel free to ask your professional moving company for packing tips; a reputable business will always be willing to work with you to make your move as stress-free as possible.
